Safe and sustainable mobility for young people

As part of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PUMS), the Municipality of Livorno needed a solution to offer young people a safer and more eco-friendly alternative for traveling to and from nightlife venues.

The goal was twofold: to reduce private vehicle use and prevent risky behavior by encouraging shared taxi rides during evening and nighttime hours.

Oimmei was selected for the mobile app development of a tool that could connect users to the local taxi system in a smart, affordable, and intuitive way.

Mobile app development and integrated platform

We designed and developed Volì, a mobile app available for both iOS and Android that allows users to:

book shared nighttime taxi rides at a discounted rate (€3.50 per person),
enter departure and destination points and the number of passengers,
view availability, schedules, and partner details,
receive SMS notifications upon registration and booking confirmation.

In addition to the mobile app development, Oimmei also provided:

full server infrastructure management, compliant with Italian AGID regulations,
domain renewal and SMS gateway integration,
a backoffice platform for monitoring, reporting, and user management,
regular app updates and maintenance, ensuring service continuity and compatibility with current devices.

The app’s interface was built with a user-centered design approach, focusing on clarity and ease of use for a young, mobile-native audience.

The Result

Volì has enabled the Municipality of Livorno to launch a concrete and effective service with real impact on youth mobility and urban safety.

Today, the app is a go-to tool for safe night rides in Livorno: it encourages shared transport, lowers costs, reduces nighttime traffic, and promotes a sustainable mobility model.

Through a tailor-made mobile app development process, Oimmei turned a public policy into a simple, accessible, and valuable tool for everyday use.
