The Edicola App Ecosystem Across Tuscany

In Tuscany, each province needs its own reliable, immediate, and personalized source of digital local news. Given the high number of local publishers and the fragmentation of content, the need emerged for a single platform capable of aggregating the main local news sources and simplifying access for citizens.

Oimmei was entrusted with the mobile app development of a distributed system spanning all Tuscan provinces, capable of unifying local information while maintaining visual consistency and up-to-date features.

Mobile App Development and a Distributed Platform

We developed a free mobile application available for iOS and Android that allows users to:

  • Aggregate real-time news from local newspapers through free regional RSS feeds

  • Offer a fast, intuitive, and lightweight interface designed for mobile devices

  • Filter news by topic (sports, politics, culture, horoscope, etc.) and by city or province

  • Personalize their news feed based on their interests

  • Read the daily horoscope by selecting their zodiac sign

The system was built to be replicable: each major city or province in Tuscany has its own branded digital newsstand app, all sharing a unified structure but maintaining independent feeds and editorial calendars.

The mobile app development followed a modular approach to ensure scalability across provinces, with a centralized backend managing RSS feeds, filters, notifications, and synchronized iOS/Android versions.
