Smart Mobility for Real Citizens

With the launch of the new Bike Station in Piazza Dante, Livorno—featuring over 300 secure, covered bike parking spaces—the city aimed to provide an innovative, digital solution for managing access, payments, and subscriptions.

The local government and project partners selected Oimmei for the application development of a platform capable of:

  • simplifying the purchase of tickets and subscriptions,
  • automating access through QR code validation,
  • providing a full-featured backoffice for service management and analytics.

We designed a complete digital ecosystem composed of interconnected components:

  • A public e-commerce platform, accessible via web, allowing users to register, view information, and purchase tickets and subscriptions easily and securely.

  • A mobile app for iOS and Android, available in the app stores, offering features like quick-buy, QR code access, and personal profile management.

  • A web-based backoffice for operators, enabling management of pricing, capacity, availability, access logs, and real-time analytics.

  • A physical system of QR code readers connected to entry and exit turnstiles, communicating in real-time with the software to validate tickets and grant access.

Key features developed:

  • Purchase of single or multi-use tickets, with or without reservation, also via on-site QR code scan.

  • Real-time display of available parking spots, using API-based integrations.

  • A “My Profile” area for saving credit card and personal details, downloading tickets, and accessing invoices.

  • Online payments via Stripe integration, with automatic invoice generation and submission to Italy’s SDI (electronic invoicing system).

  • Automatic access control based on real-time availability and rules for time-limited stays, with alerts and extended stay handling.

The application development process followed a user-centered design approach, ensuring an intuitive and mobile-first experience for both end-users and operators.

The new digital system has radically simplified access to the Livorno Bike Station. Citizens can now purchase and manage their tickets and subscriptions from their smartphone, independently and securely.

Meanwhile, the system gives operators full control over capacity, usage, and revenue—optimizing daily management and improving transparency.

This project demonstrates how thoughtful application development can transform urban services, boost adoption, and support sustainable mobility goals.
