A digital news ecosystem for Tuscany
In the fast-evolving landscape of digital journalism, Corriere Toscano set out to modernize its online presence and deliver a fast, reliable and locally focused platform to Tuscan readers.
The goal was not just to create a regional news portal, but to design a distributed editorial ecosystem, in which each province would have its own dedicated digital daily connected to the main portal. The system had to be integrated and cohesive, yet flexible and autonomous.
Oimmei was entrusted with a complete technical overhaul, introducing innovation, scalability and a shared architecture across all editorial units.
The Solution: central hub + connected local dailies
Working closely with the editorial team, we created a modular content network consisting of:
CorriereToscano.it: the central regional news hub
10 provincial portals (one for each of Tuscany’s provinces: Arezzo, Florence, Grosseto, Livorno, Lucca, Massa-Carrara, Pisa, Pistoia, Prato, Siena): locally curated but structurally connected news platforms
These portals share:
a centralized ad management system, for unified monetization
a shared geolocation engine, to deliver region-specific content based on user location
a content exchange system that allows reuse of news, columns and events across provinces
Key technical features implemented:
Integration of national news agency RSS feeds (e.g., ANSA, Adnkronos)
Aggregation of local press releases and municipal feeds
Automated content categorization and geolocated content distribution
Custom CMS for each editorial team to manage their own articles independently
Complete front-end and back-end rebuild, improving SEO, load times and cross-device responsiveness
