Play with Modigliani Livorno

A tribute to Modigliani, an opportunity to know better a great artist, but also a game: Modigliani Livorno is all this!
Here are a guide to play with the app!

Here are the instructions to play your best! The real heart of the app is the Map, which is accessed by tapping the Map button, between History and Progress, which you see in the bar at the bottom of the screen.
You’ll be asked to choose your nickname, which is the name you want to be identified with in the game. You can choose the one that is listed by default or change it later from the Progress section.

From the map begins your exploration of Livorno, the search for those places that can tell you a piece of the life of Amedeo Modigliani.

Here’s a guide to learning how to play your best with our app!

Step 1 – Top 5 Places to Discover

There are 5 places marked with a symbol on the map. You’ll have to physically reach them, exploring the city, to find out what they have to tell you about Modigliani and how they can help you discover other places related to the artist.

  • To play you have to be in Livorno… you’ve never seen a treasure hunt at a distance, have you?
  • The starting point of the exploration are the places you see on the map, indicated by colored symbols. They are 5, of five different colors (blue, red, yellow, green and light blue), and each of them is placed on the map at the place you will have to physically reach.
  • By clicking on one of the symbols you see on the map, you can view the address to help you reach it.
  • Each place, once reached will show you a text that will tell you something more about the story of the artist.

Step 2 – Discover the secret places

The main places unlock other secret places nearby. To complete the exploration of one area, that is to discover all the points united by the same color, find the secret places!

  • Once you’ve reached one of the visible places, you’ll unlock the points of interest in the surroundings, they are the secret places. They are identified by colored areas of the same color as the main place.
  • Reaching each area, you’ll find the secret place and you’ll be able to access the new text that will tell you why that place is important to Modigliani. The secret location discovered is indicated on the map with a symbol of the color of the area you are exploring, with a key inside it.
  • Find all the secret locations to complete your exploration of an area

Step 3 – Clues and hidden objects

Once you’ve found all the places in the area you were exploring, the game gets tough: the clues come! If you can solve them, you’ll be able to find hidden objects!

  • You’ve found all the secret locations and completed your exploration of that area.
  • Now test yourself with the clues: they are riddles to be solved in order to understand where we have hidden some objects related to Modigliani.
  • If you understand where the item is hidden, reach out to it and find out if you’re right!
  • Once you’ve discovered all the secret locations in all areas to explore, and you’ve solved all the clues and found all the secret items… you’ll have the last clue that will lead you to find (if you’re good!) the last hidden object, the most important!

Get help from the drawer!

To guide you through the exploration, use the drawer, that you can access by dragging up the gray bar at the bottom the map. It’s a valuable tool that helps you understand where you stand!
Here’s what you can find in the drawer

  • The main places from which to start, with their address
  • A short sentence that gives you information about your situation and how to continue
  • If you see so many question points it means that that area is still unexplored
  • Brush: You have found the first place, the one visible
  • Key: You found one or more secret locations
  • Magnifying glass: you’ve arrived at the clue
  • The last symbol is the secret object… and we certainly won’t tell you what you’ll find, we don’t want to take away the fun!
  • If the symbols flash, it means that you have not read the text they give access to. Click on the flashing symbol to read the article or clue.

SAP Cloud Platform SDK for iOS

Few days ago Apple announced on his developer portal the result between a collaboration with SAP, an SDK for iOS to connect with SAP systems.

For the first time SAP users can have cutting edge apps to access their data and interact with SAP systems, merging together the computational power of SAP backend with state of the art Apple’s devices like iPhones, iPads and Apple Watches.

SAP also created Fiori for iOS, a brand new design language to extend Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines, to bring together business user needs and the principle of iOS design. More over Fiori includes new UI elements and controls to access the back-end services.

Only in Italy there are more than 4000 small business using SAP solutions last year , and all of them could now benefit from having powerful and easy to use Apps to access their data in any situation.

Here at Oimmei we’re already working to study the new SDK in order to offer our clients new native solutions they can use to access their SAP systems.

APFS Apple File System

apfs apple file system

Apple yesterday released the iOS 10.3 update and millions of users worldwide updated their devices. Many of them probably noticed that this update took longer than usual, a strange thing considering that the flagship features were “Find my AirPods” and a new iCloud account pane in Preferences.

Truth is that, behind the scene, the biggest update was the introduction of the new Apple File System or APFS. Apple announced it at the last WWDC, releasing a beta version for MacOS, but nobody thought that iOS devices would benefit from it so soon.

Exactly what is a file system? The file system is that part of an operating system that handle the physical disc, meaning it’s in charge, among the other things, of reading and writing data on the disc. A good file system means that your picture are safe once you took it! 😉

So, everywhere there’s a disc there’s a file system, for us it means that yesterday Apple updated, silently and in place, the file system of millions of iPads, iPhones, iPods and Apple Watch, without anyone noticing, but most importantly without formatting any of those discs. For us they managed to pull off something almost impossible, our most sincere congratulations to the Apple team that worked on the new file system!

Here’s why we’re excited about the Apple Watch

Last Thursday evening (for us Italians) at Fleet Center in San Francisco, Apple attended the latest keynote, where they unveiled the latest iPhones (iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus), a new payment service ApplePay but more interesting the Apple Watch, their vision for the next generation of smart watches. We at Oimmei are very excited about those announcements and we’d like to share with you why!

iPhone6 and iPhone6 Plus

We already know how the new iPhones looks like, I genuinely hope that Apple will move it’s entire production in the States, like they do for the MacPro, so we could at least have the pleasure to discover the new products on the day of the announcement. Despite this personal considerations, there are 2 key points that struck our curiosity: the new M8 co-processor and the Apple Pay developer kit.
The first it’s an evolution of the M7, already available in the iPhone 5S, and it can measure your iPhone activity from a variety of sensor, like for example how many flight of stairs we have climbed since the beginning of the session, how many times we did stand up during the day, etc… all of this plus the ability to determine the GPS activity accordingly to the kind of activity we’re doing (run, cycling, driving). Thanks to this wide range of info we should be able to write fitness or location aware applications with a better level of accuracy, or change the kind of informations accordingly to the current user status. For example the app can change the directions info when the user exit the car and continue on foot, or in a fitness application the app can change the training type from run, run on treadmill, cycling and so on.
On the other hand the Apple Pay it’s the Apple solution to physical payments, solution already pioneered by Android platform with the introduction of NFC enabled smartphone, solutions that never really took off. Thanks to Apple ability in dealing partnerships this could be “the right time”, but despite its use in regular stores (that will always be an Apple implementation), developers will be able to use the same system (with all the security guaranteed by Apple) within their own Apps, allowing the user to pay for a service directly from the App. There will be no longer need for third party services like Paypal, Square, and so on, but the payment could be made using the same iTunes credentials the user had already setup in the system, secure with TouchID and managed directly by Apple. The implications from the developer stand point it’s huge, we now have the ability to create Apps that can let the user pay for a service (a Taxi ride just ended and booked with the App, the restaurant table which I’ve booked with the App) without needing to worry about the hassle of dealing with secure transactions, credit cards input, storing user data and more. My predictions is that we will soon see many more apps that will allow the user to pay for “physical goods” directly from an App, mostly because in this scenario the user will be more confident that they’re not giving it’s personal data to somebody else, but they’ll likely will be using the same iTunes account they’re already familiar with.

Apple Watch

The most anticipated and waited iWatch has been finally unveiled, with a standing ovation at the “One More Thing” announcement (a phrase that wasn’t used since Steve Jobs departure), and in my opinion it didn’t fail the expectations. I will not argue about the form factor, dimensions or how it’s, or it’s not, fashion (I’m still a geek in the core), I already knew that I would have buy one if it’s “core” would have appealed to me, despite it’s look. For a complete coverage of models, bands and so on I suggest to take a look the beautiful mini site directly on Apple site.
I was particularly interested by the possibility that we developers will have with this new device, the WatchKit will be available soon, and we will be able to create interaction notifications, complete apps or “glances”, the equivalent of widgets available on iPhone and iPad in Notification Center on iOS8.
We, at Oimmei, have already dozens of ideas on how we can “expand” our applications outside the iPhone world, in order to create an User Experience more rich and engaging. The one thing that capture my interest the most, was the 4 sensors located on the back of the case, two of them will be used to scan the user heart beat in order to collect information about the physical situation, the other two will be used to stimulate (with subtle touches) the user. Apple demoed it’s use in a couple of ways, to inform the user of an incoming notification or for example to send directions information without the need to constantly look at the watch while walking, but we almost wonder if third party developers will be able to use this function as well, in this case for example applications for sending morse codes could be written, or notify the user if something important has happened in our app.
The more I think about what could be done, the more I find potentially ideas for potentially new apps, and I can’t wait for Apple to public release the SDK so we can finally have an idea about what we could or could not do with it.
